Invitation to Chant Paritta Sutta

Every Evening from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. (AZ-mountain time)

Good Friday everyone, from Wat Buddhametta and Tucson Buddhist Meditation Center, in Tucson Arizona.

I hope that everyone is doing well, especially during this time of the public health crisis of the coronavirus pandemic. I hope that everyone takes care of their health and helps to take care of others’ health as well.

During this time of social distancing abd to follow the public health guidelines properly Wat Buddhametta has cancelled all of our ceremonies, classes, and meditation sessions at our Wat. We also encourage our community members to stay home and participate with us (the Sangha) through online tools that we have available.

The Buddhist monks, Samanera, and Maechee(Buddhist nun) of Wat Buddhametta have decided to launch the online “Paritta Chanting, the Verses of Protection” everyday.

The Paritta Chant, is the collection of verses taught by the Buddha for protection. The word “Paritta” means “Protection.” Throughout the history of Buddhism and especially in the Theravada tradition we chant and recite, and listen to the Paritta Verses/ Sutta/the Discourses in order to avert illness or danger, to ward off the influence of malignant beings, to obtain protection and deliverance from evil, and to promote health, prosperity, welfare, and well-being. The selected discourses for recital are known as “paritta suttas,”  the discourses for protection. Traditionally, the paritta verses were chanted by the Sangha but later it became a well-known practice done  by all Buddhists – both lay people and monks – to chant the collection of Paritta Verses for their protection and good health both physically and mentally  especially, in Sri Lanka,Thailand, Myanmar, Lao, and Cambodia.

Since we have temporarily closed Wat Buddhametta to any public gatherings indefinitely to help  to slow the spread of the coronavirus in the community,  we encourage everyone  TO STAY HOME and practice SOCIAL DISTANCE. Therefore, we want everyone to know that WE as your monks, your samanera(novice monk), and your nun at Wat Buddhametta are keeping all of you in our thoughts of Metta; lovingkindness and protection.

We would like to invite everyone to join us for  “Online Paritta Chanting” from Wat Buddhametta via “Ajahn Sarayut Arnanta’s Facebook page” every evening from  5:00  p.m. to 6:30 p.m. (AZ-mountain time).

President Trump: “Governors, mayors, businesses, charities, and citizens are all working with urgency and speed toward one common goal, which is saving American lives.”

Yesterday, President Trump spoke with 12,000 small businesses—the economic engine of our country.

“I signed legislation providing American workers with paid sick leave and paid family medical leave, at no cost to employers, and free testing for those that need it . . . We’re working quickly to pass additional legislation that will provide massive relief to small businesses and affected industries, and give direct payments to our great workers and hardworking American families.”

Testing is expanding rapidly across the country.

Thank you to ALL Americans who are putting the steps to slow the spread into practice!

The Trump Administration is doing everything within its power to support them and their employees.

We’re grateful to America’s faith leaders for making the hard decision to suspend weekend services—and we ask Americans to continue supporting their places of worship in serving the community.

“Stay at home and save lives. It’s a time of shared national sacrifice, but it’s also a time to treasure our loved ones and to take stock of what’s most important.”

FEMA Administrator Pete Gaynor: FEMA is leading Federal response operations on behalf of the White House Coronavirus Task Force.

“We will do whatever is necessary to get states, tribes, territories, and others what they need.”

“The President has authorized the immediate cessation of foreclosure and eviction proceedings for American citizens … It’s all about helping our people.”
